Daniel Volleyball – Team Rules 2004 These rules attempt to clearly identify the appropriate behavior expected by all Daniel Volleyball players.
¯ ACADEMICS: All athletes are expected to maintain a high academic performance throughout the school year. It is the responsibility of each player to seek help should athletics be the cause of low grades. Tutoring by older players is easily set-up. Team members are asked to schedule all test make-ups, club activities, help sessions, and medical appointments so that they do not interfere with practice and matches. This may not always be possible but with prior planning it should be accomplished.
¯ ATTENDANCE: Athletes should not miss any practices or matches. If a player must leave school early a note must be left in my box in the office (as you sign-out) or an email sent to my school address. If you must miss school due to illness please send me an email if possible. Players not able to practice or absent the day before a match may not be allowed to play as determined by the coach. Players late to practice, pre-match, or bus will adhere to the following sanctions: Stage 1: player must complete JV practice in addition to varsity practice (1st offense) Stage 2: player will not play the first game of the next match (2nd offense) Stage 3: player will be excused from the team (3rd offense)
¯ EQUIPMENT: With pride and care, all players are expected to maintain their own personal equipment as well as any uniforms and additional equipment provided by the school. Players are to be considerate of opposing team equipment and facilities as well. Any equipment lost or damaged by an athlete must be replaced, with the athlete paying the entire cost of replacement.
¯ JOBS: Each athlete is expected to perform her share of daily housekeeping duties. Varsity athletes will work JV matches and JV athletes varsity matches. A season-long signup system will be used to balance the work among all athletes equally.
¯ SPECIAL FUNCTIONS: Team members are expected to participate in team functions and special events (e.g., team pictures). Major family/school obligations may take precedence over these events.
¯ STRETCHING: Athletes are expected to take full responsibility for a complete warm-up and stretching program, both before and after practices and matches. This will help prevent injuries and the loss of an athlete to the team. Examples of the proper techniques will be given to the players at the beginning of the season. Team meetings immediately following matches will allow each athlete to cool down before leaving the gym.
¯ PREPARATION: Each athlete must realize that the preparation time for match play is short thus their attention and total concentration is sought during practice time each day. Commitment to perfect practice will result in superior performance during matches.
¯ INFRACTIONS: Any rules infraction, school-related problem, or internal team problem will be dealt with on an individual basis by the coach. Stage 1, 2, and 3 sanctions listed above will be used. Our athletes are expected to be role models for the entire school.
