Daniel Softball

2005

Program Overview:

  1. The program always comes first.   This means that each player does not always play at her best position.  Also, the best players play.  Returning players are given every opportunity to keep or inherit a position from the previous year, but we always do what is best for the team.
  2. Most practices will run for at least two hours.  We know we will miss some practice time due to weather problems.  Remember that it is not the hours you put in but  what you put into the hours that makes the difference.
  3. Our practices will be simple.  Persistence leads to perfection.  We want to teach a skill correctly and then repeat it over and over until muscle memory of the correct skill becomes an immediate reaction.  A good motto is “Think before the play; react during the play”.
  4. The one word that best describes a player in a successful program is aggressiveness.   On offense once you have mastered the location of the strike zone “attack the ball”.  We want to be aggressive with the bat and on the bases.  Defensively we want players who go after everything, especially in the outfield.
  5. Any successful program demands the 4 Ds from players:  desire, dedication, discipline, and determination.
  6. We want to pride ourselves on never being late.  “If you are early, you are on time; if you are on time, you are late; if you are late, we are gone.”
  7. We want to take great pride in being a competitive team.  We fully expect to win every game.  We may not win them all but it is imperative that we always compete.
  8. Players in a successful program will not be outhustled.  Players must be determined to play hard all the time.
  9. Parents need to understand there best role is to be a fan, not an extra coach.  They need to keep sight of the whole game.  Parents are always welcome to watch practices.  It is good for them to see the intensity level during practice and will help evaluate their daughter’s ability level.
  10. Enthusiasm will be our most important goal.  Players must demonstrate their enthusiasm toward practices and games just as the coaching staff.  Establishing and maintaining a successful high school softball program is going to a rewarding journey.  Enjoy the journey and maintain the courage to succeed.
