Review Guide for Major Test 1 - Honors Physical Science

  1. safety rules - know these well (from all three sheets concerning safety)

  2. equipment - only those shown, used, demonstrated in class - be able to draw and/or identify

  3. metric prefixes (Mega, kilo, centi, milli, micro, nano)

  4. SI base units, with punctuation rules

  5. significant figures - know how to count, round, do math with these, read instruments

  6. scientific notation - correct form, be able to do math with these (be able to change from one to other)

  7. dimensional analysis (including metric prefixes, scientific notation, sig figs, rounding)

  8. accuracy/precision lab (know definitions also)

  9. ellipse lab - general information, given drawing, make measurements and calculations

  10. Meniscus, cohesion, adhesion, use of graduated cylinder, vernier caliper, volume by water displacement

  11. Expansion-contraction coefficients (problems)

  12. Average deviation, standard deviation

  13. Measurement (with rulers, graduated cylinders, vernier calipers

  14. Hot/cold water freezing, dependent and independent variables, experiment design, loop airplane, ice age notes

  15. MiniLab 1 content  (cohesion and adhesion, coin information)

  16. Chapter 1 in textbook (only topics from the chapter on test are those discussed in class)
