Density of Solids  (Skeleton of true lab report)
Larry Jones
October 15, 1999

ABSTRACT:
  The objectives of this lab are to find the density of a cylinder (two different methods), a sphere, and a mystery object.  Other objectives are ...
  The procedure for Run 1 of this lab was to find the mass of the cylinder and sphere, then ...
  The result for the cylinder using the geometric method for volume was 2.7 g/cm3 and  2 2.9 g/cm3 (using the graduated cylinder) giving a percent difference of ...

OBJECTIVES:

bulletTo find the density of the solid objects
bulletTo practice using geometrical methods of finding volume
bullet...

EQUIPMENT:
vernier caliper, graduated cylinder, lab scales, ...

SAFETY RULES:

bulletDo not put the sphere in the graduated cylinder
bullet...

PROCEDURE:
* see notecard *

DATA:
* see notecard *

CALCULATIONS:

volume of cylinder:   π r2 L
 (3.14)(0.62 cm)(0.62 cm)(6.15 cm) =  7.42 cm3

volume of sphere: ...

RESULTS:

bulletgeometric method:  cylinder density = 2.7 g/cm3
bulletwater displacement method:  cylinder density = 2.5 g/cm3

CONCLUSIONS:
  In the completion of this lab my lab group found the density of the cylinder using the geometric volume method  to be 0.50 g/cm3 in error....

DISCUSSION:
   I can use lab scales correctly, measure lengths accurately with a vernier caliper, ...

1) answer to question one here...

2)  all other questions found in the lab guide are placed here

Students will attach their notecard to the back of the report.  It contains the procedure and data collected along with observations made during the lab.  Note that this is a skeleton report.  This is designed to show the format rather than the completed sections.
