North All-Star Coach - Larry Jones Coach Jones
earned his undergraduate and Masters degree in Science Teaching from Clemson
University. He spent the first 20 years of his career teaching at R. C. Edwards
Junior High School where he served as science department head for 15 years.
During the early years of his career he served as an assistant coach in JV
football, girls varsity basketball and girls track at Daniel. Taking over the
volleyball program at Edwards in 1986, Coach Jones led the team to 109 wins and
34 losses over the next eight seasons. He then accepted the varsity volleyball
coaching position at Daniel. His teams there have won 169 matches while losing
23 over seven seasons. Coach Jones has coached Daniel to three State
Championships in 1996, 1997, and 1999. He has had the honor of coaching three
State AAA Players of the Year during those seven seasons. He was named State
Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1997 as well as Region Coach of the Year 4
times. He has coached club volleyball and continues to work camps during the
summers. Coach Jones has also received recognition for his classroom expertise. He served as the Master Teacher in Physical Science for the Professional Development Program in 1991, won the South Carolina Academy of Science “Award for Excellence in Secondary School Science or Mathematics Teaching” in 1993 and, was chosen as the Teacher of the Year at Daniel High School for the; year 2000. His teaching duties include honors and college prep physical science and astronomy. Three of his students have competed in the International Science and Engineering Fair. Coach Jones acts, as graduation coordinator at Daniel. He also maintains a web site (www.sciencebyjones.com.) for use by his students as well as over 20 computers used in his classroom.
