Spring Volleyball Practice - 2004Dates: May 1 (this
Saturday practice will be from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM - optional), 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
(another Saturday), 10, 14, 15 Daniel Volleyball Spring Practice will be held in May and will last for 10 practices. These dates and number of practices are governed by the South Carolina High School League. All girls that attend must have a current physical (one used for the year 2003-2004 or one dated after April 1st 2004 - this physical would then serve for tryouts and for sports next year (2004-2005). If you participated in a sport at Edwards or Daniel this school year you have a physical on file. If you did not play a sport this year you must bring the new physical (dated after April 1, 2004) with you to the first day of spring practice. School physicals will be held on TBA. Practices will be held after school in the Daniel gym. Players will need the appropriate shoes, clothing, and knee pads. Workouts will include running and jump training as well as volleyball related skill work. We expect those girls that are serious about trying out for our teams in August to attend Spring Practice. We may be able to modify the practice times to accommodate group needs. Please realize that these practices are planned assuming all potential players will be in attendance. Any Daniel/Edwards spring sport or academic event certainly takes precedence over our Spring Practice. A vast amount of information will be given to players attending Spring Practice. This includes tryout information, stretching, drills, volleyball knowledge/skills, and for the older players, the new offense and defensive schemes we will be using at Team Camp and next season. Spring Practice Daily Schedule: (will be
adjusted as necessary for JV and Varsity needs) Day 2: Stretching, SERVING (stance, arm swing, position on court, serve receive theory, free serve, real serve), Setting (form, hands, toss to partner, set to partner and back, setters/hitters setting drills), SPIKING Day 3: Stretching, passing warmup, movement warmup, setting warmup, serving warmup, BLOCKING (hands, net penetration, body position, footwork, wall jumps, alignment, release, double blocking), Spiking (arm swing, body position, 2 step approach and swing, hitting progression, 3 step approach) Day 4: Stretching, warmups, DEFENSE, (base in perimeter read, double block options, release for power, middle, and back sets, strong rotate option, counter rotate option, seam coverage, free ball, down ball), OFFENSE (transition offense, 3 hitters, option calls, backrow attack, coverage by backrow, serve receive side out) Day 5: Review and transitions and specialization included Day 6-10 Putting all of the above into practice in drills that we will use in the fall, in scrimmage situations, and various competitive game-like drills.
